Stryker B lipo upgrade?

Hello. I searched for hours,but couldn't find specific answers to my questions. I've been flying the heck out of my Stryker B. It is stock except for the radio gear. I put in a Electrifly C-25 speed control,upgraded to Deans plugs,and got a computer radio. It's been alot of fun,but the NIMH batteries start to get weak after 7 minutes or so and I end up landing at around 8 or 9 minutes with barely enough power to keep it airborne. I would like to try some Lipos with the hope of getting longer flight times and a little more power. I would like to try just the battery upgrade for now and hopefully I can use the batteries I buy in another plane later on(been thinking about getting the Mini Pulse). I have a Triton 2 charger. I intend to use the supplied lipo prop if that is a good idea? My questions are: What batteries do you suggest for this application? Are there any good ones that cost less than the top brands? Will this upgrade give me significantly longer flight times? Do I need any special tools to test amp draw and that sort of thing?(still new to electric stuff) Any advice appreciated.... thanks. JT hi i run my stryker b on lipos with the parkzone lipo prop(5x3) top speed is around 45 or 50mph and i get about 15 minutes of flight i run several batteries the first is a WOW 11.1v 1650mah 15C that can be found on ebay from heads up RC the others are unitedhobbies com batteries you can use their 11.1v 1800 or 2200 15C batteries that are a litle heavier but give you almost 20 minutes of flying i think the stock 480 motor on lipos draws around 20 amps so size your battery accordingly. Thanks this is helpful. I had no idea what amps this motor draws and my head is swimming from trying to process all the information i've read lately lol. I'm thinking about trying the WOWrc 3S 2200mah 12C battery. It looks like these already have Deans on them,which would be great. Do you know if their connectors will mate well with the real Deans? make sure you remove the jumper in the stock ESC for the stryker B or the battery cut off voltage will be too low and will ruin your lipo you will find that with the lipo you will get higher RPMs so the plane will go faster as far as flight times well the longest one i recorded on the stryker B was about 19 minutes and i was coasting for a long period of that time. Make sure you also change the prop to the lipo prop so it can handle the higher RPMs. I found that the motor was far more prone to wearout but @ $11 a pop who cares. Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking. I just wasn't sure about the amp draw and such. Like I said,I am not flying on the stock radio gear,just the stock motor and batteries. My esc will do 2 or 3S lipos. I believe I'm going to try the WOW batteries. They appear to come ready with Deans style plugs which could save me some trouble and burned fingers lol. I run a TP 3-cell 900 on mine and it works good but I have to add weight to get it balanced which is cool because I can swap a 2100 in there remove the weights and it's still balanced. A friend loaned me a TP 2100 one day so we could "race" so that's how I know it works. I only get about 6-7 minutes with the 900 but it's all I have at the moment. I use the Parkzone 480 motor and "lipo" prop (5x3 I think). Electrifly c-25 and a Berg RX with Multiplex "Tiny-S" servos. So what I'm saying is yes your setup will work fine it is nearly exactly the same as mine. I hooked it up to a wattmeter yesterday and it was pulling 14.5 amps peak and 168 watts - this is the limit of the TP battery so you can't run at full throttle all the time unless your battery can deliver more than the 14.5 amps continuous. You should be fine just make sure you balance it correctly. You might have to pull out some of the foam and shove the battery farther forward to get the CG correct. BTW. I love that ESC.. it has an on/off button so I can plug in the battery put the canopy back on and then power it up by hitting the switch with my pinky through the hole I made for it. It DOES NOT automatically sense the number of cells so be sure you program it correctly. You're going to bump up against the limit of what you can expect with any electric plane. 15-20 minutes is the best I've heard. My Slow Stick might go a little longer than that but not by much and it's not going anywhere at the moment because I seem to fry motors somehow... Well what got me wanting to switch to Lipo is a buddy built a homemade flying wing,and put the stock guts from a crashed Stryker C in it and he was getting 18minute flight times!! We got to take turns with it during the same flight,which was very cool! I'd be happy If I could get a good 12 to 15 minutes,but I fly alot more aggressively than my flying buddy. I'd like to have a good 10 minutes to do some aerobatics,and still have enough juice left to make a second pass if I don't like my first landing approach. When my NIMH was new I was getting just that,but now it's petering out a couple minutes before my beeper goes off on the radio. Guess I need to re-set the timer next time.
