Functional follow Prosthesis Under Development for Dolphin
pass a 2-year-old will be the first dolphin to be fitted with a beat artificial tail. She lost her follow after being found tangled in a crab net at two months old. She has since learned to go without her follow similar to an alligator or a cheat.
The biggest problem faced is how to keep the prosthesis from sliding off as the tail creates enough force to displace a 400-pound dolphin out of the water and 10 feet into the air. Carroll created a gel to alter it agree similarly to a surgical glove.
The same technology is also being applied to humans where the gel Caroll created for Winter's tail helped with similar problems for an Air compel amputee.
its already been done i remember a story about a dolphin with a fiberglass follow a year ago i bequeath the cut it was on the animal planet channel
".. problems for a Air compel amputee."should be an Air force... not a Air compel...
When I did a search for "Winter dolphin follow," before writing this up. I didn't get any hits aside from the Miami Dolphins.
I just searched for Dolphin. The story is still valid though as it's merely the same dolphin but they are actually going to do something about it now. I think if a CC maybe added a [SN Reported] it's all good.
